Collection: Decodable Books for Kindergarten
Kindergarten is when most children finish learning their letter sounds and start blending them into words, and that is exactly when decodable books help the most. Miss Wendy’s Favorite Phonetic Books are 18 decodable readers written with short vowel sounds, hard consonants and only three sight words (a, the and is), so a kindergartner can sound out every word on every page.
Level 1 stories are made mostly of CVC words, like cat, pig and hot. Levels 2 and 3 add slightly longer words as your child’s blending gets stronger. There are no interior illustrations, so emerging readers read the words instead of guessing from pictures. They work at home, in homeschool and in kindergarten classrooms.
Pair the books with the whisper phone so your child hears their own voice as they read, and the printable phonics activities to check comprehension. Still learning letter sounds? Start with the free alphabet coloring pages.
